sounds like a complete load of crap to me, so why would it only affect a colorados abs etc and not a land/range rovers etc.??

wouldn't worry about that. words old and wives tail come to mind?? but don't take my word for it, just can't see how a 27mhz system is gonna screw up an abs system on only one vehicle.

Hi Allan,
Think they are just arse covering, although the signal from a badly installed and high powered CB etc could and probably would interfere with the electronics of a car, the ECU's are quite well shielded from external RF, but induced RF onto the wiring is an issue, when I have fitted old Car Telephones (we are talking the first cell phones in the uk!) the signal was strong enough to interfere and cause issues with ABS units fitted into Jags and BMW's etc, but then ABS was a luxury then, you are unlikely to cause permanent damage to the ECU's unless you decide to up to a couple of KW of power, worse case scenario is usually the ECU's resetting when you transmit, wont kill the brakes but might bring up the ABS light on the dash, but this is very, very unusual

It is quite well documented that the Cell Phone aerials and Police Transmitters do interfere with car alarms, often having to get a car towed away from the area before you can unlock it, but the alarm is expecting a signal and has an aerial.

To avoid any issue install the CB unit as far as you can from the wiring loom in the dash, use a good quality co-ax, make the ends off properly (no tape or blue tack joints!) run the coax away from the main wiring loom to the aerial, when connecting up the power run both the +12V and Earth back to battery avoiding the main wiring loom if possible, connect both the +12V and the earth directly to the battery, don't rely on a local earth behind the dash or pick up an existing +12V feed under the dash, oh and dont forget a fuse!
Vitara 1.6 Soft Top, 2 inch suspension lift, 2 inch body lift, Snorkel, Winch etc.
Disco 300TDI, bog standard but fitted with the mother of all Dog cages and the tug for the Vit.

well, for the record, it was an old cb'ers trick when going through a speed trap to key up the mike, used to give an error reading on the old police speed cameras, so it that worked then i suppose damage is poss. the above does make sence.

Urban myth I am afraid, 27MHZ no matter how powerful would not interfere with the 3-4GHZ Microwave signal used for speed traps, even less the laser traps, think "Myth Busters" on Discovery channel proved this one a year or two back.
