Damage from Salisbury Laning Day but Dont Know What ?

Postby Country_Est on Mon Feb 08, 2010 11:29 am

Help,

Done something to the Fronty but cant tell what.

Was out on Salisbury plain and surounding lanes with the Charlton Cat (nasty) hill climb (had failed this twice in the past and needed towing up the last bit, but now have had lift and M/T tyres fitted), so went for it a bit. Got up OK with a lot of banging and grounding and wheel spinning ect ect.

At the end of the that lane the car on idle was vibrating when on tickover, but fine when driving along. Have washed it today and have removed all the mud (I could see) and tickover is still causing a lot of vibration. Cant see anything wrong in the engine bay, but as a thought I have a inclin that the gears are now closer when selecting than they were before, if that makes any sense.

Could it be an engine mount causing this problem and how do you check, or replace them. Is it a big job ?

Sounds like an engine mount or tranmission mount.

Probably quite easy to spot - I assume there will be two in the engine bay on either side of the motor. A visual inspection may be enough to see if these are loose or the rubber is torn.

As for the transmission mount, you'll have to climb under and have a look at where the gearbox is bolted onto the chassis. Again, a visual check and a shake of the gearbox may well show your culprit.

I wouldn't have thought changing them would be too bad depending on where they are located. I don't know where they are on your vehicle so hopefully someone who knows more will reply!

Is this the engine mount, taken thru NS wheel arch, and should it look like that ?
