THEY GOT ME....AAAGGGHHHH

Postby maadmaan10 » Thu Jul 03, 2014 11:57 am

Can't believe I got caught out!!!! Went to do car tax online and because I was rushing I didn't realise that I was using a "COPYCAT" site. AAAGGGHHHHHH.
They are set up to look exactly like the government site. The only difference is that payment goes through extremely fast and you are NOT asked to agree to any terms / conditions. With a sick feeling I checked my statement online to find I had been charged a whopping £39.75 for this service!!!!!!!!!!! So I have emialed and copied in Trading Standards and Watchdog. Worth a try. LESSON LEARNED. DON'T rush and double check the site before parting with hard earned cash!

This is the site,, BEWARE!!

This is now with lots of government services we encounter it time and time again with driving test and theory test even when I tell all my clients only use the .gov site, and they do not seem to bothered. Although if I was good enough on the computer I would set up sites to do the same, free enterprise and all that, it would take very little to manage it for a little profit just need top listing on Google as people do not look much beyond that, and shows how many get caught out as most of these sites are above the gov site on natural listings

What they are doing is perfectly legal, just offering a checking service ( same or very similar checks that the official site does)

Morally it is a scam, legally it is not - until some loop holes / legislation is updated

I suspect there is a site mirroring every single official site
