Salisbury Plains Sept. 2016

Postby PortsmouthBiker » Sat Aug 06, 2016 7:18 pm

Hear ye, hear ye! The PortsmouthBiker tours are up and running again. Yep, towards the end of September I'll be heading down the lanes on the plains. Anyone wanna come? You're more than welcome. I've yet to look at the lanes so I'm -assuming- they're mostly all open... I will check and get exact routes later.

Anyone who's been with me before knows it's a nice gentle drive offroad, nothing wild, but still fun, very novice friendly :)

It's been a while so I'll remind of the rules: as follows: We take any trash back with us, we don't wreck the place, as per usual green laning rules. Also we're representing the club so let's make a good impression. If there's any doubt about a lane, we don't drive it. Max four vehicles, I'm in one so that's three others. Not going if a club event is on too, if the weather is exceptionally bad we don't go... oh, the biggest one of all, subject to the plains being open!!! They're the bare minimum and the rest oughta be common sense.

Meet somewhere in Amesbury, I'll specify later when I remember where... would highly recommend all terrain tyres and CB, I have done it on road tyres but if I go to haul you outta the mud, don't say I didn't warn ya... Should be a good fun time and even my ma is feeling MUCH better, she'll come too!

Have I put you off? No? Put your name down then! Maximum three but a fourth might want to go as a "reserve" in case someone drops out. I'll be making this semi-regular again so if you miss this time, then, next time :)

EDIT: 07/08/2016

Let's firm this up: Provisionally Sept 18th (Sunday), meet at The Bell, Amesbury, SP4 7AW, 11Am for 11.30 start. Subject to plains being open, will determine that the Friday afternoon before.

Hey bud I'm going to have to cancel for this one. Gutted! Struggling to find metal to weld the sills to and still need to replace the turbo. Two day Job turns into a two week fabrication marathon. Have fun on the plains!

Hi guys just to give you the heads up, try to keep of the rough Flint tracks as much as possible, I went out to check out a route for the night laning last Friday with Smurf and came back with front and rear punctures. The ground is very dry and as a result pretty hard allowing the flints to push hard in to the tyres. Hopefully you will all be fine and have no problems.

That could be a problem, most of my routes involve a few of those flint tracks (I think? That's the ones with all gravel, right?)

Also I had to half limp back from holiday, the truck is overheating on long/fast trips. I'm not wholly sure why, as of yet. It'd -probably- be okay for the trip but I am more than a little concerned.

Happy to postpone if you like.
Rather your truck was good and no pressure.

But if you still want to go I am up for it.

Bah. decisions decisions!

I'm reluctant to not do anything I said I'll do, but between the engine overheating issue (not caused by a leak, as best I can make out, and starting to worry me, after the Ford fiasco with its' blown head gasket - court case is next week!) and the possibility of multiple punctures - I think I'll have to say let's hold it to next week, possibly week after.

Don't like saying that, but, I'll like multiple mechanical issues a lot less :(
