external links

Postby daniel2609 » Fri Feb 10, 2012 10:01 pm

ive noticed that some external links that are posted in threads open up in the same window / page and others start a new tab, any ideas why some do one when others do the other? i find it easier if they open in new tab then i can close them and continue where i was on here...

Its all down to what html they put in the link. They need to add this bit <a href="http://www.whateveryourlinkis.com" target="_blank">

Its the 'blank' bit that fires up a new page or a new tab if your browser has them

In simple terms on this site it's down to people either not understanding the bulletin board or links, if you want the link to open a new page then you wrap address like this [link]chuck the web site address here[/link] alternatively to save you typing in the [ ] bits you hit the option on the tabs above any post that says "link" and it will place them on the page for you, all you do is add the web address

Demo:
Web address just copied and pasted, you'll notice it opens this thread again but on the same page

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=12415

Web address copied and pasted inside the [link] tab I selected from the choice above the post - you'll notice this opens a whole new page

Now you know fella I will expect all your links to direct us to another page

Ps you can also embed you tube clips into the post, which is much better than externally linking to them IMHO :gr8:

Yes it is, but we Android users dont have to say 'look at me, I woz mugged' ,because we have a machine twice as good as an ipad 2/iphone/i$hit for half the price!
