Non Active Club Member

Postby billbloke » Sun Nov 05, 2017 1:56 pm

I've been a little non-active with the club for a while as i've had to let my lovely little Disco go to a new owner. It seemed that although brilliantly capable and great fun, every time i took it out, something else broke or went faulty.
At the last MOT i was advised to pass it on as it would be difficult to get it through again, mainly due to rust and the fact that i'd stripped out many of the anti lock brake components.
Or to put it another way; if it were a dog and i'd taken it to the vet, they would have put it down.

I also have the Isuzu up for sale, on auto trader if anyone's interested. £500 off advertised price to club members.

I've already replaced the Isuzu with a daily driver for work. I've bought a peachy Ford Ranger.

My intention now is to get another X5 as Sunday best and then look for another off road toy.

If anyone knows of any good off road ready toys for around the 2K mark, do let me know about it please. I need something in better condition than the Disco i used to have as i'll need it for the odd trip to work and shooting days as well.

I got a truck and no one's trying to kill me, its a good day.

Hi Bill, sorry to hear that the disco was too poorly for you to continue with it ☹️
Hope you can find a new toy and we’ll see you at an event soon

Hello Bill, there was a nice Ford Ranger at Harbour Hill, goes to prove plenty of fun to be had in the shiniest of trucks. Although I have to admit that I would think twice about using a personally valued truck like that myself. :? I think the difficulty with the more modern vehicles is the increased level of refinement that owners expect when the truck is new necessitates ever more use of high tech solutions. The result is a very capable vehicle but with ever increasing maintenance costs followed by obsolescence due to the parts required not being simple to manufacture in the context of low number production.

If anything comes up that might interest you for laning or play day's I'll give you a shout, look forward to seeing you out and about. :gr8:

Hi John, you've pretty much summed up why I stopped using the Isuzu on the lanes. Too easy to break and too difficult and expensive to fix.
That said, you're absolutely right, a very capable machine.
I've started looking for a replacement for the Disco, so hopefully will not be too long before i'm back out and about.

Steve,
I have considered a Jimny. There are a couple of them driven by club members and I rather like them, only problem is, i'd have to have one as good and i don't think the budget would stretch.

Hi bill , shame you haven't had much luck with your disco!
I love my 200tdi as you dont have many electrics or abs , air bags or nothing to go wrong only mechanicals.
yes ive broke mine a few times but its had a hard life since being in my ownership :D
if you can find a non sunroof 200 tdi for the right money thats why i would get.
hope to see you out and about soon mate :gr8:

Cheers Steve. I may have found one already. If it’s still available next week I’ll take a look. It’s another disco which has already been modded for off roading, so Watch this space mate. May see you all sooner than expected.

Found and purchased a new truck.
Another Disco 1 300.
It’s been modded well and is in fairly decent order.
As soon as I can work out how I used to do it, I’ll post a couple of snaps.
I’m testing it out at Slindon this Sunday
