Damage winch cable

Postby shogun4x4 on Wed Jul 28, 2010 9:59 pm

I used me winch at the weekend and i notice yesterday there was some damage to the cable if u see the pic.
Now i didn't use much cable to winch me self out.The damage is right at the end just before the red paint is to warn u.

Now I've also took the bottom runner off the winch cable feed u can see the winch plate behind it.Now im i right in saying this hasn't
been cut down correct as the cable been rubbing again it so could this of cause the damage or is that ok.I no the runners are supose to turn when u winch but i did notice the middle runners wasn't very easy to turn when i had it fitted.

I've spk to the winch company i bought it from there going to replace the cable for free which is pretty good.Pretty pee off as only used it once.

the bottom roller should keep the cable away from the winch tray ..... ..and ALL the rollers should be free to spin by hand easily

looks to me like the cable has twisted. ...

it's good that the supliers are going to replace the cable .... but i find it hard to understand how the cable gotten twisted in the first place (unless the cable was weak to begin with)

Its seem to there doesn't look like any rubbing on the winch tray.
I took it back to the people who fitted it and they said its fine as well. They put it down to the wire getting snag and not enough tension on the cable.
