It could be the hub (bearing failing, allowing the shaft to move), or (as it was in my case) a broken wire on one of the sensors.

Looking at the 'live' voltage readings found the fault for me ...

Finally got round to changing the rear hub today
There was no play in the bearing but it felt rough when rotated and it was a real struggle to get the halfshaft separated from the hub as the person who changed it last time must of had shares in loctite as the splines were covered in it, anyway new hub fitted new brake pads and the 3 amigos have gone for now (fingers crossed )
