can any one sugest a first cb for my Terrano II

i dont know any thing about them at all, or what bits id need eiter. or where to fit one?

any help??

hi, for a 1st cb i would have a look at 4x4cb.com, as we got a club discount and also because he sells the full package-cb unit, ariel mounting, and ariel, and also he has all the guides on how to set up your system

if you want a good 1st cb package i would go for the TTi TCB-660 package, thats what i got fitted to my sj and it works a treat

good choice and glad to hear you're pleased with it - I got Midland's basic ones and work well but agreed 4x4cb.com is best place to go

Depends exactly what you want - this is an alternative solution but I really rate the Midland Alan 42 Multi hand held that comes with a vehicle kit and I have paired up with a combined speaker mike, mag mount with 3 foot springer aerial.

Not cheap but it's neat, has some great functions, and can be easily removed from the car easily when not in use.

Hand held it's great for events organising and spotting drivers over particular obstacles.

I would always suggest mag mounts for ease of set-up and for hiding the fact you have a CB to deter thieves.

In terms of fitting, inside, many people go for in the dash (though bear in mind if the bottom of the CB is covered this is usually where the speaker is so you may well need an auxillary speaker (these are pretty cheap) personally mine is still exactly where it has been since I got it - stuffed between the RH side of the passenger seat and the centre console. It was intended to be nicely fitted in the dash etc. but a) I'm lazy and b) it works well enough here and if parking anywhere you're not confident about you can stuff it further down out of sight. (Worth next to nothing on the black market but the chav element will likely see a black box of electronics, have no idea what it is and think 'I'll have that. Innit'

You can mount the aerial in any number of ways from brackets that attach to the bull bar, bumper or wing mirrors to mag mounts you can stick anywhere. In terms of reception, dead centre of the roof is best but its fine in other places too. If getting a mag mount get the biggest they do as every branch you drive under will try and drag it off.
Bear in mind that if you mount it to the bull bar of front bumper do be careful at events days as marshalls etc have been twung in the face by a rebounding springer aerial in the past.

If you do mount to the roof, look forward to the constant green laning sound of it bending and rebounding of every passing twig. CLONG CLONG BOING CLONG!! and the multistory carpark SCRAAAAAAAPPPPE! Trust me you'll learn to love it

my cb is mounted to the roof (inside obviously)


and the twig mount is on the tail gate

they are quite cheap look at the club discounts section or ebay. I put mine in the car with a bit of tape to hold it down a mag mount twig and a plug in lighter connection. quick to set up and quick to remove.

Hey Carl- I was gonna try to put mine up there due to lack of space - but I couldn't find anything to screw into!!!
Ended up putting it by my left leg/centre console - works fine.
Antenna mounted to roof bar - works a treat.
Also used a cigar plug to make removal easy. Got a Midland 98 starter set from 4x4CB - excellent value!

I've moved my cb again ....... it's now under the dash (drivers side under)

Actually I moved it to top of dash today as fed up catching left leg on bracket/corner of unit.
Bit of a B****r getting cables through, but did it in the end
